FIGHT on the Issues:
Prescription Drug Costs

This Tuesday, Wisconsin Democrats came together to show their support of the House’s H.R. 3, the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act. State Senator Erpenbach, State Representative Taylor, farmer and grandmother Kriss Marion, and Dr. Timothy Harrington held a press conference organized by DPW where they highlighted the life changing impact that this bill would have on all Wisconsinites.

They told stories of hardship and pain due to the unaffordable prices of prescription drugs. And they also told stories of prescription drugs helping them overcome pain and change their life for the better.

H.R. 3 would allow Medicare to negotiate prices on up to 250 medications, including insulin. This could help lower prices by 55% — a difference of night and day for people with jobs that don’t provide access to consistent or decent health insurance. The bill also makes fiscal sense: this plan would bring down government spending by $345 billion.

Democrats know that Wisconsinites are too often being forced to choose between paying for their medicine and paying their bills. That’s why they’re working so hard to make sure that this legislation passes Congress and the president signs it.

But all of their work is being obstructed by Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress who are more focused on winning re-election than they are on doing their job. Keep in mind that the provisions in H.R. 3 are supported by 80% of the country and that Trump literally ran on a promise to make deals to lower the prices of prescription drugs. As Sen. Erpenbach noted on Tuesday, Democrats are trying to help Trump fulfill a campaign promise here.

That’s why we’re urging you to reach out to Trump and let him know that he should support this bill. You can follow this link for more information: wisdems.org/hr3.
