Tony and Sara for Wisconsin

From the Democratic Party of Wisconsin (more or less)

The Republican Party just nominated for Governor the most extreme, divisive, and radically loyal to Donald Trump nominee possible, Tim Michels.

From abortion and voting rights, to gun safety and public education — Tim Michels has staked out radically dangerous positions with the goal of dividing our state, pitting neighbors against one another, and ending our ability to pick our own leaders through fair elections.

Call the Democratic Party of Door County office 920-365-1047 and volunteer to help defeat Michels. The stakes could not be higher! We need volunteers for the office, for door-to-door canvassing and especially to help with the October 2 picnic.

If you go to the Ever/ Rodriguezs’ Campaign website you can find information on the Evers’ agenda for the future of Wisconsin. Here is an outline of the “DOING THE RIGHT THING” agenda:

Doing the right thing to improve education quality:

  • Investing in mental health programing is an expansion of the existing “Get Kids Ahead” programs.
  • Expanding job training and apprenticeship programs will connect people with hands-on skills training for high-demand fields.

Doing the right thing to tackle rising costs:

  • Will provide a state gas tax holiday with funding to backfill lost revenue for ongoing road and bridge repairs.
  • It will fund an expansion of the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit which will provide nearly $30 million in tax relief to more than 100,000 Wisconsinites.
  • It will continue to work to cap the costs of prescription drugs including a cap on insulin copays.

Membership Report

As of August 1 there were 327 paid members of the Democratic Party of Door County. This is the most members ever and included 13 from Southern Door, 139 from Sturgeon Bay and 97 from Northern Door; the remainder were from all over the USA.

What We Learned From

the Primaries

By the time the primaries rolled-around, the major drama of the elections was wrapped-up as US Senate candidates united to support Mandela Barnes.

Julie Hancock was unable to get enough write-in votes to get on the November ballot to oppose Rep. Gallagher. There is much more we could have done to make it close but there just wasn’t enough time.

With the Republican turnout spurred on by the close race for Governor between Kleefish and Michels, Democratic candidates had roughly 500 fewer votes.

This becomes the target for November: We must convince 500 “thinking” Republicans and Independents to support the Evers/ Rodriguez “Do The Right Thing” agenda.

Doing the right thing to support small businesses and family farms:

  • With record low unemployment the focus will be on specific challenges like access to childcare, quality education for our kids, job training programs and continuing to find solutions that work.

Doing the right thing to protect access to healthcare:

  • Gov. Evers will fight Wisconsin’s 1849-era abortion ban. He will continue to protect access to reproductive services, including abortion and contraceptive services.

Doing the right things to keep communities safe:

  • Universal background check for guns
  • Red flag laws
  • Additional funding for local public safety

Signs Are Up

The TriCounty Influencers Campaign has placed Vote for Democrats signs all over Door, Kewaunee and Brown counties. This has been a major effort that dove-tails with radio and social media spots with the same theme. Let us know if you heard or saw one… they are your membership $s at work trying to reach out to new voters.

Going Door-To-Door

Most weekends between now and November 8, volunteers will be going door-to-door in teams to call on people

We think are “thinking” Republicans and Independents.

We try to provide them with information important to them. We do not argue or try to turn them into Democrats.

We need your help! Call Trevor Stevens, our staff organizer, at 214-773-3584 to volunteer.  He can plug you in with other volunteers working in townships and neighborhoods all over the County.

A Campaign of Parades, Events, House Parties and Knocking On Doors

The First assembly District goes from Washington Island to UWGB (but does not include the University), then South to almost Denmark…. That’s a lot of geography to cover and people to meet.

Almost every community has a festival event in the late summer and fall and every person wants to meet their State Representative face-to-face.

Roberta Thelen, our Democratic Party candidate for State Rep., is trying to do exactly that.  And she needs your help.

If you will host a living room reception for her or have a community event you’d like her to attend, give her a call at the Democratic Party of Door County office 920-365-1047*.  Fortunately, she’s run before but it surely takes a lot of shoe leather and persistence.

*the office number helps protect her from hurtful rabblerousers.
